As an entrepreneur, life can feel like you’re spinning plates in the air, running around, hoping nothing falls and hits you on the head. It’s chaotic. And despite our culture telling us that we must strive for work-life balance, sometimes that feels out of reach.
But achieving balance isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about figuring out what tasks are important, knowing when to delegate and when to say no. And delegation at home is just as important as delegation at work. There’s no shame in saying to your family, “Hey, today I can’t cook dinner. Can you handle it?” or “The dishwasher needs to be unloaded before more dishes go in.”
In this episode, we share some some different ways that we set boundaries in our businesses and personal lives. ↓↓↓ Listen to the episode below to learn more about how you can move towards a healthy balance.
How Setting Boundaries Can Help You Find Harmony Between Work and Life
It can also be worthwhile to take some time to reflect on why we throw ourselves into work. Some of us use work to self-medicate. Working long hours, often late into the night, can be a way of dealing with loneliness, inadequacy, and fear. When other parts of life feel out of control, work can be a safe place where you know what you’re doing. But I’ve realized that this isn’t healthy. If this sounds like you, addressing the underlying issues can help you feel more in balance.
Routine can also help you find more balance. Even if your routine isn’t perfect, having some consistency—like going to bed at the same time each night or making sure you eat regularly—helps you feel more in control. It’s about creating a foundation that supports both your business and personal life.
Finally, listen to the people around you—your family, your partner, or your team. Sometimes they may not tell you directly. But when you’re out of balance, their behaviors and reactions to you may reveal that they aren’t getting what they need. Paying attention to these signs has helped me recalibrate and ensure that everyone feels cared for and seen.
